President's Letter As President of Friends of the Greenway, Inc., I enjoy working with our 9 member board to conduct the care and feeding of the Greenway. These folks are dedicated volunteers and many help out on volunteer projects from time to time.
We have another dedicated group who work at the Frog Quarters on 3 hour shifts and serve coffee, tea and muffins or help customers find that special gift among the many handcrafted items we carry. Our profits return to the Greenway.
We welcome your participation in one of the active committees that see to the Greenway's many amenities. The Development and Construction Committee helps to plan and carry out new things being built, like the shelters, playgrounds, parking lots, and adult activity equipment.
The Education Committee helps plan and carry out the Discovery Walks, nature oriented programs, and materials and facilities for environmental awareness. Our FLOWERS OF THE GREENWAY was developed by members of this committee. We have installed 4 vernal ponds to help in the life cycles of some endangered frogs and salamanders. We could use additional hands to weed and water plants in the butterfly garden, helping to promote healthy populations of especially the monarch, one of the migrating butterflies.
As I walk along the Greenway or work in the Frog Quarters shop folks often remark what an asset the greenway is, and what fun they personally have using the walkway, canoeing on the Little Tennessee or taking their grandchildren to the playground.
We'll try to keep you posted on our new activities here, and for current events watch for our Happening on the Greenway column in the Franklin Press on Wednesdays. Kay Coriell, President of Friends of the Greenway, Inc.
